M4P 5.1.2 Installation on openSUSE 12.3 x86_64

Postby terje » Tue May 21, 2013 11:18 pm

I thought I would share how I installed MEDUSA4 Personal 5.1.2 on openSUSE 12.3 x86_64.

After a standard openSUSE 12.3 64bit installation, I added the following 32bit environment to prepare the required Medusa installation and runtime environment (RTE) . These packages can be added as root with zypper commands in a terminal as shown below, or with the YaST2 gui package manager. The last zypper command is on one single command line.

Code: Select all

> su -
Passord:
#
# zypper in -t pattern 32bit
#
# zypper in libGLU1-32bit libXt6-32bit libXtst6-32bit libgthread-2_0-0-32bit libfreetype6-32bit libXrender1-32bit fontconfig-32bit libbz2-1-32bit libxml2-2-32bit
#

Then it's time to run the Medusa installation script from it's download directory:

Code: Select all

# ./medusa4_v5_1_2_linux_personal.sh
#

To test if the complete runtime environment is available for Medusa after the installation, run the following commands:

Code: Select all

> cd /< medusa_install_dir>/master_project/
> csh
% source login
%
% ldd /< medusa_install_dir>/med2d/m2d/run/draft | grep "not found"
%
% ldd /< medusa_install_dir>/medcolraster/m2d/run/draft | grep "not found"

If no missing libraries is found, then everything should be ok to start Medusa as follows.

Code: Select all

> /< medusa_install_dir>/master_project/startmedusa

For easy, future startup, add the Medusa4 application starter icon to the DE favorite menu.

Personally I also prefere to setup a couple of shortcuts (symbolic links) for quick and easy terminal command use:

Code: Select all

# ln -s /< medusa_install_dir> /medusa
# ln -s /< medusa_install_dir>/master_project /medproj
# chgrp users /medusa
# chgrp users /medproj

Then these directories will be easy to remember and access as follows:

Code: Select all

> cd /medusa
> cd /medproj

I will just update this thread telling that Medusa4 Personal v. 5.1.2 is running fine as well on the latest openSUSE 13.1 x86_64 system.
