2D sheet metal input question

Post by scionpt » Sat Nov 23, 2013 12:20 am

I am new to mechanical but am having fun learning medusa4 -- its capabilities are very impressive.

I have been going through the tutorials and documentation, but still have a question about the 2D sheet metal design process. Simple sheet metal designs seem easier to generate in 2D rather than the 3D/unfolding approach, and the "drafting an ideal development" in the sheet metal document outlines the process. However, going through the steps ends up with a "sheet not valid for modeling" error. I must be missing something important, and any suggestions would be great.

Make sure you use sheets from 3d/smd tool tray, and 3d line styles. Attached is the simple box example.
Model it, then try unfolding, correcting, fold and interactive view from the SMD tool set. Hope this helps
