Medusa installed without errors but won't run.

Post by erickla » Sun Feb 14, 2010 2:56 am

Hi there,
Seems to have an issue with Medusa4, installed it under Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic koala 64 bit) installing is no problem but it won't run when starting from the applications menu.
Installed the program as root (won't run) and installed it afterwards as user (sudo).
Makes no difference, won't start!
No messages or warnings pop up.
Anybody have a clue?

MEDUSA is a 32 bit program so probably something to do with not finding a 32 lib on your 64 bit machine

I have tested M4P v4 installations on all my three machines. It works well on openSUSE 11.1 x86_64 (without 32bit environment added) and on 11.2 i586 on two stationary machines, and even integrates well with Gnomes startmenu.

However on my third machine, a powerful mobile workstation with Core 2 duo T9500 CPU and 4GB RAM with openSUSE 11.2 x86_64, Medusa4P installed - but wouldn't start from the program menu.

Tried also a terminal to run the ./startmedusa script in the master_project, and got the following errors:

Segmentation fault
mxInterface : received data error
tcsetattr failed error 5

and the Medusa main window never arise.

Do you possibly get the same errors doing the same?

Probably a missing 32 bit lib. In a terminal goto the master_project directory start /bin/csh and source login. This setup the MEDUSA environment then use ldd on the draft executable either in med2d/m2d/run or medcolraster/m2d/run below the install point. This should list the dynamic libs and you may find one missing or pointing to a 64 bit version.

At first I got the following missing libs on my mobile workstation with openSUSE 11.2 x86_64:

libQtCore.so.4 => not found
libQtGui.so.4 => not found
libQtOpenGL.so.4 => not found
libQtXml.so.4 => not found
libgfortran.so.1 => not found

Then I added libqt4-32bit and libgfortran4x-32bit, reinstalled Medusa4P. The missing lib disappeared (couldn't see any pointed to 64bit), but still got the following startup error:

mxInterface : received data error
Segmentation fault

The remarkable thing is that on my stationary workstation with openSUSE 11.1 x86_64 where Medusa4P starts without error messages, the following missing lib was found

libgfortran.so.1 => not found
